Kevin Cooke is a Partner at Cunningham Swan Carty Little & Bonham LLP with a special focus on insurance defence litigation. He attended Queen’s University for his undergraduate studies, obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Studies. Kevin obtained a Master’s Degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science. After graduating from LSE, Kevin worked in politics for a few years before returning to law school at the University of Windsor and obtaining a Law Degree (J.D.).
Kevin began his career in Toronto, where we articled at a mid-sized firm on Bay Street. He briefly practiced as an Associate in Toronto, before returning home to Kingston to establish his legal career and set down roots in the community with his young family. Prior to joining Cunningham Swan, Kevin practiced for several years at a local Kingston firm in the area of insurance defence and civil litigation.
Kevin has a diverse insurance defence practice with a special emphasis on complex insurance disputes, municipal defence litigation, and life and disability insurance litigation. Kevin also practices in the firm’s General Litigation Group, and he regularly provides advice and direction to Cunningham Swan’s clients who are engaged in the civil litigation process. Kevin has appeared at all levels of Court in Ontario, including the Ontario Court of Appeal. Kevin is the East Region Representative and Executive Board Member of the Federation of
Ontario Law Associations (FOLA). He is a past President of the Frontenac Law Association, where he remains actively involved on the 1000 Islands Legal Conference Committee, the Awards Committee and the Civil Rules Committee. Kevin is also a sessional instructor with the Queen’s Law School where he teaches an advocacy class – Advocacy on Motions.
In his spare time, Kevin enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children. When he finds time, he likes to golf and act as a commissioner for his fantasy sports leagues. He also occupies his time by rooting on his favourite teams (Blue Jays, Raptors, Maple Leafs and the Michigan Wolverines – Go Blue!)
Prof. Samuel Dahan is the Founder of OpenJustice, an open-source platform and community that provides no-code development tools, and hosting infrastructure for legal AI applications, enabling users to embed legal reasoning into language models. He is also the Head of Deel Lab, Deel’s research division dedicated to global employment policy and HR technology. He has spearheaded the development of a dozen AI projects, including the Deel AI Classifier, MyOpenCourt, and OpenJustice. Dahan is an Associate Professor at Queen’s University Faculty of Law, the Director of the Conflict Analytics Lab at Queen’s, and holds visiting faculty positions at Cornell University, Paris Dauphine University, ENA, and Harvard University. His previous roles include serving as a Cabinet Member at the Court of Justice of the European Union, Deel Chief of Policy, and Advisor for the EU Commission on financial aid programs in Eastern Europe, as a faculty affiliate at the Harvard Program on Negotiation, and Conflict Resolution Consultant at IRENE-ESSEC. He also clerked for the French Administrative Supreme Court (Conseil d’État). Dahan’s research has been published in leading journals, including the International Journal of Economic Law, McGill Law Journal, European Labour Law Journal, Industrial Law Journal, Journal of Law and AI, AAAI, and ICML. His work has been featured in publications such as Business Insider, Global News, Bloomberg, Semafor, Børsen, and HR.com. Samuel competed in kickboxing and taekwondo at an elite level, earning bronze medals at both the French and UK championships. He also served as head of the Cambridge Taekwondo team, leading them to victory in the Oxford–Cambridge varsity match in both disciplines
